It's always been a bit flashy for my taste, like the pearl necklace. I prefer something very restrained, like this:

I think that draws attention to her neck and shoulders more than the actual necklace. With something like this:

I think my eyes are pulled more strongly to the necklace in ways that don't let me appreciate the beauty of her neck and shoulders as much.

I find a woman's clavicle, neck, and shoulders are some of the most beautiful and feminine parts of a woman (also wrist, hips, spine). So I tend to be disappointed if she puts anything that has a strong visual pull away from these areas. I do like very subtle and restrained jewelry that accentuates without obscuring those parts, but pearly jewelry tends to obscure things too much for my taste.

I think a nice classy pearl necklace on a woman, especially if it's multiple strands paired with a nice cocktail dress or evening gown is a truly timeless look.
