Is your hair always pulled back like that? If so, the hoop is better in my opinion. If your hair is not pulled back, then the stud, but on the lobe not higher up. (Not sure if I'm using the terms correctly, but I assume you know what I mean.).

Personally I like small studs that are more subtle. Just a little twinkle that barely catches the eye.
