I'm planning on going to the local beauty school to get a haircut. I've been cutting it myself for over a decade now and it could definitely look better than it currently does. I have some layers that look a bit funny - I don't know how else to describe it, but they just look like an amateur cut them when my hair is straightened. I also have what feels like a ton of dead ends that look and feel terrible, and I'm planning to ask how much of the ends they think need cut, and to even out/shape up the layers. Ideally, I'd like to lose as little length as possible, but I also understand that in order to get it healthy and looking good, I probably need at least two inches cut off, and am fine with that.
I'm not sure if there are any stylists on this site, but do my instructions make any sense? I don't really have a specific haircut in mind, just basically fixing what I already have to look more presentable and getting rid of the dead ends. I was a teenager the last time I was in a salon and always just asked for a trim, so I want to make sure I won't confuse or frustrate the stylist!
