1 yYou go to school to learn, not show off your bod. Isn't there enough distractions at schools these days as it is with what do you call each other or what bathroom to use, bullies, and of course fights on the quad. Save your outfits for OnlyFans, as they don't belong in school. At least you can make some extra money for Christmas that way.

WE say they're there for an education but the KIDS are there for socializilation, sports, music, clubs, theatre, friends, dating, flirting, finding their people, their identity, their future. For some it's the best part of their day because their home life is horrific in a way that I shudder to explain.

Because it's school not a fashion show, you go there to learn not to show off your body. And maybe you feel more comfortable wearing whatever you want but schools tend to avoid student to get distracted. Just wear a normal shirt and a trousers, you can still study in them and you wouldn't have to wear a jacket

A distraction for whom?

And if they do find her attractive WHOSE problem is that?
- 1 y
It's their problem, she being pretty isn't a problem, but they are in school, no need to show off, you get there to study not to show off your body, and certainly some would get distracted by how attractive she is. These kinda of things distract some kids from learning and focusing on their study, and even if it's not a big deal, the school would try to avoid every sort of distraction possible.

But why Is the obligation on the girl to alter her behavior rather than the boys / lesbians to alter theirs?

You are 18 years old , there are many occasions in life when you will have to dress appropriately , time to start practising this , school is not for you to show off your body and seek attention , its for learning and setting up your life , so wake up and keep the outfits relevant to the process of Study , keep yourself nice.

@Kingofkings1992 yes for offensive tshirts n stuff. The GSA in my school the boys dressed in tube tops n daisy dukes and NOT ONE MALE was dress coded for the same outfit that would have the deans clutching their pearls!! ITS MISOGYNY! Full stop!
AI Opinion
School dress codes can sometimes be unspoken or based on expectations, even if they're not written down. It can be frustrating to feel you're being singled out. Remember, school's aim is usually to maintain a certain environment, but it's still okay to express yourself within those boundaries. At least you're not facing it alone! Maybe try to find creative ways to dress within their guidelines while maintaining your style. 😊

1 yBecause it helps no one and you go to school to study and not to model or do whatever.
I was the same as you and looking back I think I would have done much better in school if there would have just been some school uniform. I spent most of my pocket money on clothes, spent a lot of time of the day deciding what to wear to school to either impress my friends or get attention from guys. Same in school, my focus wasn't where it needed to be. I was distracted and I did the same to people around me. Just wearing some jeans and hoodie would have been easier for everyone. In the end it doesn't make a huge difference anyway. So just get over it and wear something basic

@Kingofkings1992 oooooookkkkkkkaaaaaayyyyyyy. But they do have the same claim to bodily agency, identity and expression, right?
- 1 y
@DrPepper12 Yeah, cause there are rules for boys too, school don't let boys roam around and do and wear whatever they want.. I remember boys couldn't wear earrings or hats in school.. Plus, those are kids, they only have so much freedom of expression and bodily autonomy..
- 1 y
Agreed. Only so much autonomy. My concern is equitable application of the rules.
The problem with boys is always something vulgar, drug and alcohol related, offensive, sexual or violent. It's never too much skin. - 1 y
@DrPepper12 "The problem with boys is always something vulgar, drug and alcohol related, offensive, sexual or violent. It's never too much skin."
Same with girls, they get drunk, high, and do all types of nasty behaviors.. I mean the fact that they want to wear short skirts, and show skin tells me that girls are for from these clean, innocent angels..
1 yJust because you don't have a uniform doesn't mean you can wear whatever you want. Even outside of school there are many businesses that will turn you away if you're wearing something inappropriate. "Common" sense always applies. If it's too revealing or features provocative text or images, then you don't wear it to school, work, or to any business. Otherwise they have the right to turn you away, fire you, suspend you, or whatever.

I was pregnant during that time and could basically only wear leggings. My mom went crazy and lost her shit on the principal... I was like the only one in my school who was allowed to wear them after that 😅
264 Reply- 1 y
"They're just to shame and sexualize girls."
I think it's to stop girls from shaming and sexualizing themselves.. Also, I'm sure boys couldn't walk around in tank tops or with their shirts off, so the code applies to them too. - 1 y
@Joshydavid25 there's nothing sexual about the body until someone makes it sexual. Also some rules just crazy dumb like my school didn't allow open toed shoes. Not even for picture day or events. Girls couldn't wear heels to prom like wtf š
- 1 y
So a girl who got pregnant in her teens while still in school is lecturing about how rules sexualize girls? ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
- 1 y
@RingOfFire do you sexualize pregnant mothers? That'd be weird af even weirder to sexualize a pregnant teen.
- 1 y
@Apple1996 itās almost impressive how good you are at stating the the total opposite of what is true
- 1 y
@Kingofkings1992 not saying anything that's opposite here. A woman being pregnant isn't sexual. That's crazy to think that way
- 1 y
So now it is crazy to think that when a woman becomes pregnant woman it has anything to do with sex? ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
- 1 y
@RingOfFire it really is because she could be pregnant from a iui or ivf or even a rape where she didn't consent. To assume that a woman is being sexual because of she's pregnant is dumb af
- 1 y
@Apple1996 girls sexualize themselves š¤¦āāļø . In what way does a dress code sexualize girls?
- 1 y
@RingOfFire having a body, wearing certain clothes, pregnancy is not being sexual so there's no need to sexualize any of those things unless you are alone with that woman and having sex with her
- 1 y
@Kingofkings1992 it's saying that a girl wearing a certain outfit is too sexual even tho they are litterally just clothes and her body
- 1 y
I'll leave it at that. But if that assumption is dumb af, so is the assumption that dress codes are only for the purpose of sexualizing girls. In fact they are for just the opposite purpose.
- 1 y
@RingOfFire so you think telling a girl to cover up her body is for a reason other than it being sexual?
- 1 y
@RingOfFire also these are underage girls we are talking about here. Why are adults even thinking for them to cover up? š¤
- 1 y
A. So they won't be distracting the boys. B. So they won't be inciting a disturbance. C. So they won't be inviting the boys to make them pregnant.
- 1 y
@RingOfFire that seems like the boys problem if they're distracted. Fix them first then work on the girls clothing.
And what's wrong with getting pregnant? That is a personal choice - 1 y
@Apple1996 no, it doesnāt work like that. If teen girls are wearing provocative clothing intended to entice male students, itās not the boys who are at fault for being distracted. Getting pregnant is a personal choice for an ADULT. Teen pregnancy is not a good thing under any circumstance
- 1 y
" that seems like the boys problem if they're distracted. Fix them first then work on the girls clothing."
If you dangle a piece of raw meat in front of a lion and the lion attacks you, is it your fault or the lions? - 1 y
@Kingofkings1992 that's the boys issue for being distracted. I have sons and I teach them to be better than that.
And teen pregnancy was a good thing for me and my husband - 1 y
@RingOfFire boys need to learn to control themselves. That's nothing to do with the girls
- 1 y
@Apple1996 youāre hopeless
- 1 y
@Kingofkings1992 nah I just hold boys and men accountable for their behavior
- 1 y
@Apple1996.. right. And girls arenāt supposed to be held accountable at all. The dress code exists to PROTECT girls. Not to oppress them
- 1 y
@Kingofkings1992 how accountable for wearing clothes?
Protecting them from boys and men who cannot control themselves? Why should they have to live in fear - 1 y
@Apple1996 live in fear? What are you talking about?
- 1 y
@Apple1996 protect them from ruining their own lives. Not protection from boys omg š¤¦āāļø
- 1 y
@Kingofkings1992 you said to protect them. They're obviously having to protect themselves from something dangerous
- 1 y
@Apple1996 Iām done here. Youāre just not getting it
- 1 y
@Kingofkings1992 I don't need to get it. I'm raising the next generation of men here and stopping these problems from the source so girls don't have to live in fear of rapist men
- 1 y
y'all, i can see both sides of this argumentšš¤ so, on one hand, i believe that in general, dress codes are okay, as long as they dont restrict too much. Its an obvious grey area, the problem is finding how much you should restrict. Honestly, i agree with apple to some degree, if dress codes are made so the boys would not have any āprovocationā, thats pretty sad and stupid. Women should not be forced to wear something just because of how the boys act. That would be on the boys, not the girls. However, i still think in general, schools need to have a dress code to some degree, just not too much. Like for example, I've heard that there are some schools where you can't show your stomach or belly button. At our school, I've seen girls do that, but its not a problem to me (and i would assume a lot of other boys) whatsoever, so its chill. š¤·āāļø
- 1 y
@Apple1996 "there's nothing sexual about the body until someone makes it sexual."
I mean, humans wanna have sex with each other, so naturally you'll start to sexualize the body in some way.. And women wear clothes to accentuate and flaunt their figures all the time.. I'm sure that that's what the OP was doing.. While I agree that some rules are arbitrary, those aren't the rules we're talking about. - 1 y
Also, boys/men are naturally visual, and while most of us aren't animals who just pounce on things, girls wearing provocative clothing not only sends the wrong message, but will distract the boys, even if most won't do anything.. It's the distraction that will be the problem, not because boys can't "control" themselves.. It has nothing to do with control.. Girls should also control themselves if that's the case.. You work with what naturally happens with each gender..
- 1 y
@Joshydavid25 boys in school are distracted by so many things already, mainly, i see they distract themselves š making the point that its ādistractingā to boys and thus girls need to wear less āprovocativeā clothing for them is a pretty stupid way to defend dress codes. How would you feel if women were distracted by you wearing, oh lets say shorts, and you had to wear pants because of how the girls can't control themselves. Would you think thats fair?
Yes, i know its a different exanple, but in general the main point still stands.
Im not entirely against dress codes, but i am against this type of defense of it.š¤·āāļø - 1 y
@lil_will_12 no, itās not the same. Girls and boys are vastly different in what they are attracted to. . As @Joshydavid25 said, boys are much more visual.
- 1 y
@Kingofkings1992 so basically your reasoning for the dress code is āboys will be boys, and so girls have to dress differently so boys dont do something stupidš¤ā nice. So basically if boys can't control themselves (which actually in most cases they can. Im in school, and see many girls wearing what you might call āprovocativeā outfits, yet it doesn't distract me of the majority of boys.) If boys are acting badly, thats on them. In sorry, but its not what the girl is wearing, its actually the boys fault if he does something wrong in that regard. Getting distracted? Maybe some do, but I've already said that it is not that distracting. Boys in my school get way more distracted bc of other things. It ain't a distraction issue. Maybe it is to YOU, but just because its a problem for you, doesn't mean that the girl is at fault.
In general, i think that dress codes are fine, as long as they are not crazy restrictive, like for example gils getting in trouble just for wearing a tank top. It would make sense to dress code someone if they are wearing something extremely revealing; tank tops in general, are not that. - 1 y
@lil_will_12 Exactly so we don't need another thing to distract them especially teenage girls dressing like hoes.. It's very fair especially since provocative clothing are specifically made to get attention.. Wearing whatever you want because you don't wanna feel "controlled" is selfish behavior, which seems to be what is being encouraged with women these days.. Maybe we should tell boys that they shouldn't be controlled either..
- 1 y
Women are visual to a certain extent, but men take it to another level.. The stimulation is crazy especially when you're a teenage boy.. It's almost overwhelming.. Women might like how a guy looks, but they don't get turned on to the sight of every nice looking guy they see.. It's not about creepiness, it's about being mindful, and thoughtful of other people around you.
- 1 y
@Joshydavid25 you don't think women get turned on by random men they think are attractive? š I don't know why men think women are innocent like that but it's funny af
- 1 y
@Joshydavid25 how are the boys being controlled? Like, are you really this apposed to girls dressing in what they want to wear? I understand a dress code for things that are very revealing, but like I've said, things like tank tops or leggings are not. (And yes, I've heard of girls getting dress coded because of wearing either of those) this isn't a big deal or issue, and yet you seem to want to make it one. In general, if a girl were dress coded for indecency because it was very revealing, then that makes sense! But to dress code a girl because āthis is how boys act, so we have to make girls do this in order to stop themā is just nonsense! Like dude, do you know how people in school act rn?
You are not getting my point: this is not really about gender or sexuality, but you are making it about gender and sexuality. Its about indecency and revealing outfits. Any gender that wears an indecent outfit should be dress coded. And you are defending the extremely few, if any, boys that are distracted or āprovokedā to do something, by saying āits in their nature! Its what they do!ā I would not be surprised if you were a person who believes almost all rape is caused by the outfit the woman was wearing, as that is a similar conflict/argument to this in a way. - 1 y
@Apple1996 No, plenty do, what I was saying was that they don't get turned on like a men would with every decent looking woman he sees.. But it goes deeper than that because a man can literally wanna marry a woman because he think she's beautiful.. Women hardly wants to marry a man because she finds him handsome or even really handsome.. A woman said that she liked to see me because I look like a pornstar, so I definitely don't think women are innocent.. LOL..
- 1 y
@lil_will_12 My point in saying that is, we could also tell boys that they can do whatever they want and not be controlled like we are telling girls.. And no, WOMEN can wear whatever they want, GIRLS in school should dress modestly..
"this isn't a big deal or issue, and yet you seem to want to make it one."
Are you paying attention to the conversation? I'm not making those a big deal.. I said boys can't wear tank tops to school, so girls should be no exception..
I'm making it about the fact of why they tell girls dress and be decent especially in school, and no, I was simply talking about distracting hyper horny teenage boys and how that is taken into account.. I didn't say anything about "boys will be boys and do boy things".. I didn't say anything about "provoking" them either.. You're strawmanning me.. Go back and read my guy.. - 1 y
Just remember my little apple dumpling, that jobs require dress codes too these days. You may as well learn how to wear clothes that fit in with where you are working. Of course, if a person works as a stripper, that would be different. šš¤£

School is not the same as work. Not even close. At school you're talking about minors that are being held in loco parentis. When it comes to employment, you are an adult and there are sanctions that can be put in place individually as opposed to blanket bans or restrictions.
- 1 y
@DrPepper12 School is about teaching you how to behave and be prepared to be an adult.. High school is preparing you for the next step in life and for learning. It isn't a place for you to be dressing up for male attention which 95% of girls are doing when they dress like streetwalkers.. Hell there were girls giving guys head in the bathrooms at my high school so for teachers to try to keep those things from happening or being thought about with horny teen aged kids.. it seems quite fair. Guys also were not allowed to wear pants sagging under their ass or to wear hats, so get over it.. there are rules everywhere, people need to accept that and get over themselves.

Opinion Owner1 y@DrPepper12 I've never once in my entire life seen a single boy dressed in revealing clothes. so for your one in a million situation, that's an unfair disparity. But boys were never allowed to wear mini skirts or crop tops.
Now, I get that the schools would be afraid to call out male gay and trans students if they dressed like this, because of fears of anti-LGBT themed lawsuits. But literally all dress codes I've ever seen and heard of are more restrictive on males than females. Zero exceptions.- 1 y
It was a social experiment in my school run by the GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) The boys dressed in tube tops n daisy dukes and NOT ONE MALE was dress coded for the same outfit that would have the deans clutching their pearls giving out suspensions like candy! ITS MISOGYNY! Full stop!
Opinion Owner1 y@DrPepper12 because the school was too intimidated to call them out because they are part of the LGBT alliance. We both know how obvious this is

You just proved my point! The rules are applied inequitably! Regardless of the reason, boys wearing the same clothes as girls don't get suspended!! It begs the question whether it's the clothing that is a neutral object or the person's gender who's wearing it? In every code of conduct in every school in the United States it's the clothing ITEM that is banned; Why not suspend the boys?

And one of those lessons is to push back on laws or regulations that are selectively in arbitrarily enforced. Is there no room for individuality or expression or is it just serving society?

So just because it's in the handbook means that it should be followed? š³

@DrPepper12 Well isn't that the point? I'm not saying I agree with every rule

Martin Luther King, Jr.'s comment in his famous letter from Birmingham Jail:
"One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws."

1 yBecause teens have sex in bathrooms, they try to prevent that as much as possible
15 Reply- 1 y
So clothing causes sex? Really?
- 1 y
It can, mostly in high school
- 1 y
Sounds like the "She asked for it because of how she was dressed" to me.
- 1 y
Of course it does, tbh I never took you as someone that can deeply analyze, the common sense is that statistically someone dressing in a way that attracts more attention will increase any form of interaction and attention, sexual interaction is included, i see you slowly shifting and twisting the topic to rape which is already off topic to what I'm taking about and the topic of the question, if it wasn't clear by sex in bathrooms I mean consensual sex in the bathrooms, I didn't feel it was necessary to specify but here we are.

In 20 years there was ONE time that occurred. The kids just walk / drive off campus.

Anonymous(18-24)1 yI remember a girl in class who had big breasts wearing low cut tops. The male teachers had a visibly "hard" time with this.
05 Reply- 1 y
Why were you sexualizing the male teachers?
Opinion Owner1 y@DrPepper12 I wasn't. But when you are 15 and the poor teacher is visibly aroused in a class full of girls it doesn't go unnoticed
- 1 y
Did you feel repulsed or say anything about it?
Opinion Owner1 y@firenine909 I wanted him to notice
- 1 y
Why did you want him to notice? I feel like youād be shocked to see your teacher get a boner
Anonymous(30-35)1 yWhy is it that in the West many people literally want to do away with all standards and let society sink to the lowest level possible?
13 Reply- 1 y
There's absolutely zero standards in the West. They hate rules, they hate being told what to do, they don't want accountability for anything, and they have no sense of decency whatsoever. I'm Irish and from the West and I'm sick of it lol.

@Wraith_Cemetery respectfully disagree
Opinion Owner1 y@DrPepper12 Yeah, I've read enough of your opinions that I'm not surprised. The comment from @Wraith_Cemetery is a bit hyperbolic, but he's not wrong. Standards in the US drop more and more every year. It's sad to watch.

Anonymous(36-45)1 yDo you by chance happen to have a smoking hot body? Sometimes that gets you tougher enforcement of whatever the rules are.
11 Reply- 1 y
Unfortunately that's true. There is selective enforcement based on lookism
