A good barber never makes a mistake. More like you didn't clearly communicate what you wanted. But there's lots of bad barbers out there too or people who lie about their skills and want full payment to do a half azzed job.

When the barber finishes cutting you are supposed to look in the mirror and check his work and then based on that you make comments and pay. With a good barber I guess he would just give you the cut free or reduce the price if he messed up -- but again I never saw that happen. I only saw losers who always suck do that.. the type you only go to once and never go back. Here's a hint too: the people in barber shops with lots of chairs are way better than most of the people in the shops with a single chair.
