How often do you need to get your clothes altered?

A big frustration for my ex was that every time she'd find cute jeans/pants, she'd gave to get them altered before she could wear them. It was very frustrating and expensive for us!

She had very wide hips and a narrow waist, nothing seemed to fit her properly off the rack unless she bought it oversized and went for a very casual/daggy look.

I was curious how common this is, especially for women with larger hips/busts? I'm a guy with fairly standard proportions, and none of my friends have needed to regularly get new clothes altered, which only made my ex feel even more isolated!

Never. There's plenty of choice that fits me perfectly so if something doesn't I simply don't buy it
