What do you think of the trend of girls wearing underwear only outside and at home?

I have mixed feelings about this subject.
Modesty in dress is a confusing concept for me, as I think it also might be for many other people.
I can understand, in some ways, reasons for levels of modesty in dress.
Sometimes, less being revealed can make the mind wonder what lies beneath, perhaps sparking interest and pursuit for those who may be in a stage of life where seeking a long-term relationship may be a priority.

On the other hand, I see and feel no shame in the appearance of the human body.

Puritanical fear by some of the sight of the human body is pervasive in much of society, especially in the U. S.
I think that's an unfortunate, unnecessary carryover from centuries ago.
I doubt that will change anytime soon.

Am I wrong in my thinking?
I don't know.
As mentioned, I'm somewhat torn on the subject.

It's a very difficult thing to know whether or not someone is attired as they are in order to unhealthily satisfy unmet emotional needs, if they simply like what they're wearing, or who knows what other reasons may be in play at any given time.
I'm not qualified to pass judgement.

I see nothing at all wrong with anyone wearing lingerie as clothing, certainly when at home, and also outside the home, while maintaining respect for certain occasions and locales.

I once witnessed a very attractive, tanned woman dressed in a yellow micro-string bikini and gold stiletto heels enter an elementary school office to pick up her child during mid-morning hours.
I happened to be there on business, so I wasn't just passing through the room.
The awkward silence among the several people who were present in the school office was so thick it could have been cut with a knife.
I didn't ogle, but I was appreciative of the sight of her female form.
She seemed to be comfortable, and so was I.
Inappropriate, unacceptable?
I didn't think so.

Certainly.
I think that I was likely greatly in the minority in my thinking among the others who were present in the office that day.

There are those who have very clear-cut opinions on the subject.

Unless you want to advertize your sexual body parts, and wear clothing precisely made for private display, not sure why this is a thing. In the wrong place at the wrong time it appears whore-ish.

But there are all kinds of body advertizement trends. Teeny string bikinis are OK at the beach. Wearing one to shop at the grocery store seems inappropriate. (also one would be cold) But they are not see-through, though they show a lot.

Still, most people wear coverups when transitioning in a beachy community to a place where showing a lot is not usual or practical.

I see nothing wrong with wearing a "slip" top (that has modest coverage) with shorts, slacks or a skirt. Wearing lacy, see-through tops or underwear in the street, and nothing else must mean the person wants attention.

Unless that's your goal, I'd advise against it. And you might get the wrong kind of attention, too.

Years ago, the celebutantes were going out without underwear and allowing photographers to get crotch shots. I guess this is tame in comparison, but before I judge in any way, shape, or form, in college, I wore extreme low rider jeans where you could intentionally see your thong, aka, whale tale, so am I any different? In 2025 I think we’ve gotten so overly sexualized that many people feel like it’s a sign of freedom, sexual excitement and daring. The more we show the more we become turned on. Influencers are people who have been heavily moved by the creation of social media and the norms the float around there. Social media has given us narcissim, "status" values and mental health issues like depression and angst in young adults. This is not so weird when you feed your soul with nothing but the hunt for likes and shallow values like materialism.

There is a crisis going around in all of the western world thanks to this. In my homecountry Sweden a staggering 72 % of people aged 18-29 seeked help for mental health issues year 2024. The vast majority is because of social media, the hunt for likes and comparing bodies and appearances with others.

This trend you see here is a direct result of peoples values from social media, why they wear this is to get looks, to get "likes" in real life and to also of course upload pictures of their outfits online to get likes there aswell.

What a person wears in the privacy of their home is their business, no one else's.

What they wear outside, though, is someone else's business. Wearing only underwear outside could get them arrested and fined for indecent exposure, especially in more religious conservative areas.
