As a dapper fella, I wear both on a regularr basis. Usually it's the bow tie though and I don't mind being the guy that wears one. In a sea of sweatpants and graphic tees, I'm the strange lad in a tweed jacket and a colourful bow tie. NEVER the clip on type... that's for little boys.
Interesting!!
Classic necktie 99% of the time. Bowtie only for black tie or white tie events.
A bowtie is an anachronism and has been for decades.
On the flip side, a necktie makes me think of a napkin, sorta pointless.
So, taking into consideration your last statement, why do you bother wearing any of them? Just kidding. Lol!
Oh, I'm a slave to peer pressure and societal expectations. I'm very needy and crave other people's approval. I'm also very fearful of operating outside the rules. 🤣
Actually, even in the world of private equity and investment banking, the "uniform" has evolved to a suit or blazer with a button up shirt without the collar closed and a tie for about the last 15 years. Basically ties are optional these days. All the cool kids skip a tie most days.
Lol!!!🤭🤭🤭🤭 Good to know. One item to worry less about.
Apart from fashion, I have found through experience that every man (professor, family member...) who wears or wore a bow tie was either eccentric or ego-centric. Sometimes a combination of both. By eccentric, I mean unconventional in their behavior and interests, often in a charming or amusing way. There is of course no scientific research to back up my gut feeling.
Yes, but what would you choose or prefer?
Lol!! That can be done very easily.
Accurate and I don't mind at all. I'm an eccentric history professor who wears bow ties haha.
Classic neck tie. I never wore a bow tie in my life.
I never liked wearing ties but I did wear them for special occasions.
And I had to wear a suit at work for several years until they went with golf shirts that had the company name and logo embroidered on the left breast.
Neck tie for sure
Unfortunately they’re so underused these days that wearing one looks weird even at my white collar job
Bow tie works with a Tux. i would wear one if it felt appropriate
But I wouldn’t wear one on a random Tuesday
A bow tie is out of place in most circumstances. So nearly always a neck tie.
You didn't ask but the knot you use is important. Half Windsor is by far superior.
The school boy knot should left at school. Full Windsor is a bit in your face
Classic neck tie 👔
@thegreenyogi you're a little quiet these days lady; you been well? I like you still post questions - minimal descriptions though often 🤭👀
I am in a moment in which I prefer to keep to myself. And I give minimum queues to my questions because people understand my questions better it seems.
@thegreenyogi self love and self improvement. I dig that. Stay true and healthy y'all 🙏
@mysteriousNicholas Thank you!! Likewise!!🙃
Classic neck tie for sure. It just looks more aesthetic and less "urban" to me. I find the bow tie also gives a slightly more feminine vibe and also it feels like something is missing covering the vertical strip of buttons below it.
Classic Neck Tie:
1. Timeless and versatile
2. Works well for formal events, office, and business settings
3. Easier to match with most shirts and suits
Bow Tie:
1. Stylish and unique
2. Great for parties, weddings, and formal black-tie events
3. Shows personality and confidence
Choice: If you want a safe, everyday option → classic neck tie.
If you want to stand out and make a statement → bow tie.
These are both a bit too formal for me. I would probably go more for this sort of look:
Classic neck tie. Tied once, then cut and velco added to back of loop. This way no psycho can strangle me with it and if it gets caught in machinery it gets yanked off without my head being pulled in.
Neck tie. I never learned to tie a bow tie, though I have worn a clip-on bow tie once or twice at formal events.
I prefer the classic tie. I can't remember the last time I wore a bow tie.
Classic neck
Vibrant coloured, silk naturally tied with a full windsor knot
I am always a classic guy... unless I am in a wedding party.
I like tying ties and can do both. Wearing them is no great shakes
If I have to wear one of these I'd choose the neck tie, otherwise I wear a bolo.
I only wear classics.
I only wear a bow if I have a rented tux.
First, but I had a high school teacher, Mr. Hallam, who wore bow ties.
Classic necktie, timeless and easy; bow ties are fun but not everyday.
I could never understand what's the practical use of a tie?
Classic. But FunkyMonkee looks to be the bow tie sort.
Neither. I don't see the point in wearing something uncomfortable and restrictive around my neck.
Simples...
Classic neck tie
Every. Single. Time.
After decades, I still can’t tie a bow tie worth shit
Classic neck tie seems fine. Never tried a bow tie.
I think there is no reason to choose bow tie if you are not a 🤡
Neither, I don't like ties.
Bow ties are gay.
NO tie. I hate ties.
Bolo.
