Can someone help me understand piercings and tattoos and hair dye?

I know it’s been a thing for years but it’s so widespread anymore I just, it’s like I’m missing something. It’s like we live in a generation of young people that don’t want to grow up or put their best foot forward. There’s nothing more frustrating than seeing a woman that I think could have it all, and it’s like she goes out of her way to present herself in a lesser manner.

I just don’t get it. Women that could otherwise be like a prime candidate as someone you would really find attractive, but they consciously choose to not be the more appealing version of themselves.

I don't get it, either. 55 years ago, if someone TOLD THEM they HAD to do it., they'd fight tooth and nail to prevent it!!
I remember the ruckus that was caused by George Carlin wearing an earring! A decade or so later, he said that the reason he did it was to be different! Then, everyone else started doing it so, he wasn't different, anymore so, he stopped wearing one!!
The one I don't get is everyone shaving their heads!! A couple famous guys in the early `80's started doing it now EVERYONE'S doing it EXCEPT those guys!! I'm fucking sick and tired of looking at chrome domes, cue balls and skinheads!! And now, they've got women doing it, too!!! THX-1138, here we come!!!

It goes back for centuries. Read some history books about other cultures. It has just crossed over into the mainstream, and that is all. Even then, it is not something that is remotely new. It started many decades ago.

I understand what you are telling and when I was younger I thought like you. Now I think that @Fashionista Amy is true and these are the forms of self-expression. These girls scare away some guys, but it's something they look for when they take piercing, tattoos or dye their hair.

My thing is that it's been overplayed out since the early 80's. A rebellion type thing with the difference being besides the lack of originality is the hanging on way beyond any point of relevance. I'm talking about the attitude behind loony liberals, not what anyone chooses to ink on their skin or change hair color to nor pierce certain areas of themselves.

What's hard to understand? Fashion changes constantly. It used to be considered low class for a woman to have pierced ears. It just sounds like you don't find them attractive. No problem, don't date those women.

It's a way people cope. They don't like something internally about themselves and body modding helps them cope.
