How short can I ask my barber to cut my hair without going bald?

As a follically-impaired American, I just get a "#0 buzzcut". I'm due for one, in fact. It makes life easier and I usually only need it about once every 4 weeks.

I cut my own hair with a #0. No comb. Very convenient cause you just go around and around till no more hair is being cut and I like that I have no need to dry my my hair or comb it.
