Which boot color is most versatile with jeans and denim skirts for fall?

I have a couple of mid length denim skirts to wear in the fall and winter. I am looking for a pair of boots that I can wear with these as well as jeans. I cannot decide on which color would provide the most versatility, so that I can wear them with a variety of denim outfits.
