Are Wallabee shoes still a good style choice for fall?

I haven’t owned a pair since high school, and I think I’m about to jump back in. Something about the fall makes me get in a 90s East Coast hip-hop mindset. These shoes used to be a fashion staple. I used to dream of having lots of them in all kinds of colorways and patterns and fabrics.

A bunch of the guys I play hockey with are wearing these “Hey Dude” shoes, and I was looking at them and thought “these are basically just ugly low-rise Wallies.” So maybe I should cop some classic Maple Suedes and show them the correct path, lmao

I haven’t seen those since the 90’s. Why does the side of the shoes go out past the edge of the soles? Those things look like they have no lateral stability whatsoever, I hope you have strong ankles. I’d get the black ones because the light ones will look like shit real quick, you’d have to carry around one of those suede cleaning eraser bars everywhere

I think you’re right on all counts, haha. I’m trying to remember the fit for years ago. I play hockey and skate all the time, so the ankle strength should be there. And I always keep a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on me to keep my sneakers crispy, so I could definitely do the same with the suede eraser.

Definitely more of a fashion over function type of thing. I also have like a hundred pairs of shoes in my rotation, so almost nothing is “daily wear”; I have shoes for YEARS. I like to always look like I have near-brand-new shoes on, haha. But yeah, I’ll be taking a leap of faith trying to remember the functionality of them. Just kinda wanted to own some for the throwback-iness of it all

I didn’t even know Wallies made it out to Los Scandalous; I thought that was strictly East Coast. Thought everyone was in Chucks or Vans out there, haha. I wish I could pull off louder colors, but I can’t. Or I saw some that were basically a Dominican flag, and now I’m mad I’m not Dominican, lmao. And American flags are very suspect on any white dude in big 2026, lmfao, so I think the flag motifs are out for me, and I should just dip my toe back into the Clark’s game with the basic Maples😂 I love the green paisley ones too, but green isn’t a good color on me. I want to buy those for my boy who always wears Celtics gear, but he owes me like 2 Gs right now, so I probably shouldn’t be gifting him Wallies right now😂 On second look, too, doesn’t quite match the Celtics green right.

Yea the wallies were popular years ago when I was in elementary school. Now it’s all Nike, chucks, Jordan’s, vans… and then the even more ridiculously expensive brands.

No, the suedes, definitely not. I think of them as a fall shoe, maybe spring when it’s dry. Dirty and wet weather, I have some fly Tommy Hilfiger duck boots, haha. The Wallies are definitely a “weather permitting” style, particularly in suede. There are leather ones too for wetter weather. But they have crepe soles on them, so you’ll absolutely take a digger if it’s slippery outside, haha.
