Is making a girl laugh a good thing?

I'm a comedy writer, so I guess I'm a decently funny guy. I make girls laugh, but I have trouble ever seriously connecting with a girl. I'm convinced that girls aren't interested in "funny" guys, but convince themselves that the guy they're interested in is funny. I recently asked a friend out on a date. I thought I detected signals -- made her laugh, flirted a bit. She rejected me, saying she prefers me as a friend. I don't know why. Now I'm avoiding her.

So my question is:

Does being funny help or hurt? I just sort of move from joke to joke and have seldom had an emotional conversation with a girl. Usually I find it to be pretty soap-opera-y. I'd like to get some feedback on this, thanks.

Girls love funny dudes bro. They don't like comedians. You can't be on "stand-up" mode all the time or the girl is gonna grow tired of that act real quick. For example:

1. Girls like tough guys, they don't like guys who like to beat everybody's ass for every little thing ALL THE TIME.

2. Girls like jocks, they don't like a guy that talks sports ALL THE TIME.

3. Girls like guys who work hard for their money and make a lot of it, they don't like guys who work ALL THE TIME.

Get the picture. I'm sure your madd funny but keep it balanced. She wants to know you can be emotional too. She wants to know if you can be serious or you sometimes get mad, etc. She wants to know if she can carry a conversation without every other thing she mentions ending up being a joke or punch line.

She needs to see different facets ...not just the one thing you're really good at.

Girls love funny guys. However, you need to be able to have an emotional or serious conversation when necessary. Like bond00713 said, you need to balance things out. Girls like funny, yet confident guys who can also understand their feelings. Though that girl rejected you, if she thinks of you as a good guy then you should try to get to know her friends since she can probably help hook you up with them!

Being funny definitely helps. However, use it wisely. I love when a guy can make me laugh, but its just as important that a guy can listen to me and give me feedback. So use those two things in combination and you will be fine. Use humor to make her comfortable, and use communication to make her feel wanted

Being funny is great if you have a sense of humor then you would be one of the few guys that can take a joke in the spirit it's meant to be taken. However, if your idea of conversation is just one punch line after another you might want to tone down the funny and work on the serious a wee bit.

being funny is generally a big plus, but girls like when that same funny guy who made her laugh so hard her stomach hurt, gets real serious and tells her how beautiful she looks right now.

It all depends on the girl. Some girls are very sensitive and take things personally, while others can just laugh it off. You just have to figure out which type of girl you're dealing with first, then from there you can be the judge. Also, it's better if the humour comes naturally, not prepared or anything like that. Just be yourself, as corny as that sounds.

mos def, women love guys with a sense of humor, you jus gotta do it in moderation...coz there's a time to be silly & funny, and also a time to be serious
