Why would this guy be so shameless about checking me out?

I was at my dance class a little early and there was a guy that I’m on pretty decent terms with (as in we spoke a tiny amount and not too much) that was stretching and I began to stretch as well. I later heard him say “mm hm” and I looked up at him and he was smiling at me and I asked him why he said that and he said “Your body” and then I looked at him like “what the hell?” And he said “well, im gonna be dancing with you” and a little later he got next to me and asked about platonic things like what I liked to do for fun and what I was going to school for.

So why did he make that sexual comment? Why would he shamelessly check me out? I like to think that maybe he meant it as a joke, but I would like a second opinion.

Bodies are pretty too, naturally. It's part of you as a person. He thinks you're hot, and pretty too probably.

No, it makes him seem normal. All he did was actually put to voice what other guys may be thinking but not saying. Could he have gone about it better? Yeah for sure, but maybe in the last moment before he said it he just felt awkward about it and it came out wrong.

Yeah, people often smile when they're nervous to try to cover it up. Have you not noticed that? And said what? Said what he said. That's what I mean.

I guess he did immediately cover it up after I looked at him with a “what the hell?” Kind of expression when he said “Well, I’m gonna be dancing with you so...” then he got next to me and starting asking me questions.

If you say so. Like I said, it seems like he likes you and was simply trying to give a compliment that came out wrong. If you thought he was hot back, maybe it wouldn't matter as much. But it seems like you don't, which is fine, so it's bothering you.

Well, I do think he’s pretty good looking, but I don’t really know him yet and it’s like why would I be interested in a guy that’s physically attractive, but that I don’t know anything about? 😜 And again, I’m pretty iffy about how he just flirted with me like that. I keep thinking it was just a joke, but I’m not too sure and I wanted a second opinion...

Because that's the way we are. We care about looks first, personality second. The personality doesn't matter if she's not pretty; that would make her "cool, but a friend" material. So naturally we assume that sometimes girls must be the same way. Sadly, it seems like often they're not. Which sucks for us.

No, that's not what I mean. I simply mean he may also like your personality, and think you're cool and smart, but you would simply be friend material if the *first* thing wasn't there, as in physical attraction and finding you hot. We don't date or make comments like that to girls that we don't find attractive. But then again, can you say the same? Are any girls you know dating guys that they don't find handsome? It's pretty normal, I'd say. I just mean he thinks you're hot, which is why he noticed you, and now *also* probably likes your personality because the attraction was there first. That's just how it is.

Well there is always the old adage "much truth is said in jest." I think there are definitely limits to that, like a joke can def just be a joke, but no he was probably serious to a point.

Yeah almost none of us flirt just to do it. If we're flirting, it's for a good reason. Usually.
