What do you do to impress others deliberately?

I find that deliberately trying not to impress seems to impress, although in some ways I'm trying to impress in a way, but by not trying to do it (and therefore trying, but not). I'm not sure if that makes any sense to others. It makes perfect sense to me.

I wouldn't say I'm being myself though since if I was being myself, I'd try harder to impress. So I'm trying not to be myself by not trying, and that seems to impress.

As a concrete example, let's say I go on date with a girl and we're at a restaurant and I'm getting bored. Normally if I was trying to impress, I'd be patient and try to keep staying there. But I have found it better not to try, and therefore just say, "Hey, I'm getting bored. Let's bounce and go somewhere else." And that tends to impress more, even though I'm trying the least to do it.

As another, let's say I am singing karaoke in front of a large crowd. Normally if I was trying to impress, I'd read the screen if I don't have all the lyrics memorized. But that takes energy and effort to read the lyrics. So I resist the temptation and don't bother. I just make improvise half the lyrics and make some gibberish sounds very enthusiastically. Then that seems to impress more, by not trying to impress.

So I tend to impress people mostly with how little I'm trying to impress them. But it takes effort me to try so hard not to impress them.

As another example, let us say I have a date. My natural inclination is to impress so I might want to dress up real nice. So I have to resist that urge and just put on a t-shirt and jeans. I have to resist the effort to impress, and that takes effort.
