Why the stereotype of Mediterranean women being very passionate in love?

Question

And Mediterranean men too... from southern Italy, Greece, Spain, etc.
I understand it comes from the movies, and while I noticed that some of my friends from Calabria and Sicily have a certain pathos, they aren't passionate as they are shown in movies and TV series.

I was thinking some people thinks this sterotype is true because of Mediterrean culture. But i think a kind of different now, probably warm weather and perfect beaches give summer love vibe to people. As culturally i am a Mediterranean woman whose ancestors moved to Middle East and keep their roman culture until now and i never see a man who interest in my culture (except food), they are generally asking for sex and delicious food. That is why i think this sterotype comes from summer love stories.

When I think of Italian people, I think of the man grabbing the woman and lifting her into air and then fucking her senseless with an angry look on his face. I think of the woman throwing all his belongings out of the window and setting fire to photographs of their past.

I don't know. I've met several women who were from the Med and they were quite passionate, just not in a violent way. They were just possessive and desirous, traits I thought made them ideal lovers. Spanish women are high on my list.
