What is the best way to talk to a guy for the first time?

I want to make a good first impression but I'm really awkward and I don't want any weird silences in the conversation. Also what IS flirting and how do I do it

Guys are attention whores…. If a girl gives me a second glance I’m going to talk with her.
So my suggestion is this…. Look at what he is wearing, what’s in his hands, what ball cap he is wearing or the food he is eating at lunch…. Find something and start talking. Examples:
He’s getting food… “hey, how is that fried chicken? I’ve been wanting to try it…. Is it any good?”
He is wearing a NY Yankees baseball cap. “Hey, you like the Yankees too? I just started getting into baseball and the Yankees are a good team” then sit back and listen.
Doesn’t matter what you say but ideally you ask a question. That way he will take over and talk to you. Then introduce yourself.

Just be yourself, ask questions and be in the moment. Ask questions like so what did you do today? and depending how they respond try to continue the conversation of oh you wake up late so what do you do on your days off? How do like to spend a free day? etc
