Flirty or friendly?

There’s this coworker I started working with this week for just couple of days. Before I hadn’t really worked with her or even talked with her. Like she started before me but a month into when I started she had family issues and was out of town for 5 months and just came back. I’ve been really swamped with work so our boss asked her to help me. So basically I’ve trained her on a few things to help me with and just messaged her now and then to make sure it’s going okay/she needs any help. All normal. Since I’ve started working with her keeps sending me the smiley face emoji with hearts. Sometimes it’s just that with nothing else in the message. I thought maybe she sends that to everyone but in our department chat she never sends it she’ll send more casual emojis if she ever sends one. I get she may just be friendly but it does seem odd to me lol. Like if we had been working together awhile, knew each other and all, it wouldn’t mean anything. We were at first talking about work but aswe talked to more it was more small/personsl talk and all. That’s normal I know, but our office doesn’t like that, we’re all busy, and they kind of micro manage. We have to clock in with our fingerprint. I remember once she was rushing in the morning to clock in on time, so she’s someone who listens to it/takes it seriously. I know could just be friendly, it just seems odd.

Hmm that is kinda weird man. I mean yeah it could just be her being friendly since you're training her and all. But that heart emoji is usually more flirty you know? And if she never sends stuff like that in the group chat with everyone else, it does make it seem like she's doing it special with you or something.

I'd say trust your gut on this one bro. You said yourself the office is pretty strict about personal chatting when you should be working. Her suddenly sending you all these smiley faces with hearts one on one is crossing a line there a bit, even if she means it friendly. Sometimes girls don't realize how something comes across too.

If I were you, I'd keep things professional with her from now on when you're messaging about work stuff. Don't get pulled into too much personal back and forth that could cause issues with the boss. If she keeps sending heart stuff, maybe just respond quick and direct about the work topic then let the convo die off. Make it clear you're focused on getting the job done.

No point in risking any drama at work this early on. Better safe than sorry, feel me? If she's not trying anything and really just being friendly, she'll get the hint. But if she is interested and keeps pushing, at least you covered yourself. Your call man, just watch your back is all I'm saying!

Yeah I figured. Like the thing is is she’s helping me with my work lol. Which she is, and it’s making things easier for me. All I did after training her is message her making sure it’s going okay, maybe help her on the more confusing parts now and then. What my job is lol. She even messaged me saying how she finished one part I said great thanks and told her what else she could do. She responded thanks for checking in, which I didn’t she messaged me first lol. I just said np. She then just sent it again with nothing else in the message. I’m not going to do anything but it does seem little odd. Like if I had been working with her for awhile, knew her, and she sent that I wouldn’t think twice about it. Best not to do anything though I know.

Yeah man, that does seem kinda odd then if she's the one starting the conversations sometimes just to send the heart emoji. Usually girls only do that when they like a guy, not as a casual thing. I'd say at this point it's pretty safe to assume she's into you.

I know what you mean about not wanting to do anything since you work together though. That definitely makes it tricky. Maybe you could try being a bit nicer to her when you do chat, like compliment her work or something, just to see how she reacts? Like if she gets extra smiley or talks to you more after. That way you get a better idea without directly asking her out or anything yet.

Just don't lead her on either if you don't feel the same way. The last thing you want is drama at work, so play it cool for now. But I'd say the signs are there that she thinks you're cute! If things change with your jobs later, maybe you could politely ask her out for coffee then. For now just focus on being friendly and keep things professional. But at least you know someone thinks you're handsome, dude!

She kept sending them even the sparkling pink heart emoji then the other day she was asking if I had a girlfriend in a very interested tone. I said no she said why. lol, could be interest right? But could be friendly too I know also lol

Woah dude, asking if you have a girlfriend? That's definitely crossing a line into flirty territory haha. Mixed with all the heart emojis and stuff, I'd say there's a pretty good chance she's interested in you for sure.

I don't know man, that seems like more than just being friendly. Why else would she care so much if you're single? That's kind of a weird question to ask a coworker otherwise. And sending all those pink hearts and emojis, come on haha she's totally into you!

I'd say if she keeps it up, you might want to gently let her know you think she's flirting - in a nice way of course. Or you could even flirt back a little bit to see how she reacts. But be careful dude, still don't want to break any office rules. Just play it cool for now and see what happens.

But it definitely sounds like she likes you. I'd take that as a compliment! Unless you're totally not interested, then you'll have to find a polite way to let her down. But it seems clear to me she's got a crush on you bro!
