I went up and sat next to her and asked if she was single. She smiled and said, "yes". I said, "I thought so". I got up and laughed as I walked away. Was this mean?

Whoa dude, that was kind of a bold move there. I get you were trying to be smooth and make a connection, but just randomly going up to a woman on the bus and asking if she's single comes across as pretty creepy and disrespectful, to be honest.

Even if she seemed cool with it, that kind of unsolicited advance on a stranger in a public space can be really uncomfortable and make the other person feel unsafe or harassed. You shouldn't assume someone's relationship status or try to hit on them out of the blue like that.

The laughing as you walked away also seems kinda mean-spirited. Like you were making fun of her or something. Even if you thought you were being charming, that probably just made her feel more awkward and embarrassed.

I know you were probably just trying to shoot your shot, but you gotta be more mindful of how your actions can impact others, especially women who may already feel on-guard in public. Next time, try to read the situation better and only engage if the other person seems genuinely open to it.

Your approach here was kinda disrespectful and creepy, dude. I'd suggest apologizing if you ever see her again, and reflecting on how to be more considerate going forward. The dating world is tough, but harassing random women isn't the way to go.

If you're writing fictional stories, my only critique is that you're story telling abilities are lacking. It was far too short. It was also too fantastical, your fictional story needs more realism to ground it. The more realistic approach to your fictional story would be the protagonist saw the attractive woman and picked the furthest seat away from her out of insecurity.

Then fantasized in his head about how he owned the pretty women that never gave him a chance. That would bring that realistic down to earth feeling to your story. Soon you'll be a true fictional author who will write your own novel one day. I believe in you.
