Why do guys always want to hug and stand too close even though we've just met?

Since back in college no matter what the circumstances guys have always found a way to get into my personal space and flirt playfully with me, which includes trying to hug/cuddle lightly or finding an excuse to whisper something into my ear so they can nuzzle my neck and make me giggle, even if we barely know one another. I'm conservative, so I always nudge the guy back. The attention seems sweet, especially since they ARE gentlemanly enough to pull back when I ask them. They really ARE just being playful, kind of the same way a big puppy cuddles up to you, you know?

Back in college this sort of made sense... I was young and cute. But now it's a little baffling, esp since there are usually much younger (hotter) options around in my opinion.

You won't want to hear this but, because too many of your gender rewards this behavior. And I'm not excusing guys that do this when it's unwarranted and unwanted. But if a lot more of your gender would be more clear and stand firm this would be LESS of a problem.

Because you know how tired I get of reading this 💩. Too many women today want a man's attention and don't want to accept that attention sometimes comes with a price. Yes even if you just met him. Not every guy lives like they had a momma. And even if they did some guys have learned that being chivalrous gets them NOWHERE. I'm not excusing any of this behavior. Just answering your question. It is up to YOU WOMEN to demand a man respect you. And if you don't want to do that. Then understand the problem isn't entirely with him.

It's not that I'm not comfortable with it -- in instances where that's the case I'm clear that the contact is unwanted. But I'm just wondering what makes the guy think to do the leaning and getting closer and all that? What makes them think the girl will be ok with it?

I would think what he is doing is testing the waters. A hug, whispering to you and that type of thing isn’t really threatening. So they want you to warm up to their touch or their close proximity.

Any form of touch can be sexual or not. You know what the biggest sex organ is? The brain. And it’s all what’s in that persons head. If he sees a girl as a little sister touch would not be sexual EVER. If he is always thinking of the girl in romantic ways then an accidental touch would be thought about as a sexual contact.
