Girls: do you smile at a guy you like?

I was wondering if you girls only smile at a guy you like...consider my situation

I got a class with this girl, this is what happened.

1 Some guy was late and made a weird sound as he walked across the classroom. I noticed it but was focusing in class - this girl sitting beside me noticed it and started to smile at me (I was ignoring her since I was paying attention in class, but I could tell she was looking and smiling at me for a good 5 seconds or so). As soon as she found out I didn't care, she turned her head down back to the notes...I think she was embarassed.

2. Same girl again. I sat on the bus and was reading the paper. I felt someone was starring at me so I looked up and it was the same girl. This girl was standing there starring at me and smiling again. We looked at each other for a couple of seconds but I went back to reading the paper thinking to myself, "what a weirdo, or do I have something on my face"

So do you think this girl was trying to flirt with me // talk to me. I've noticed she's a pretty shy girl. Her smile was pretty genuine like she was looking at me as if I was a cute guy or something. Not one of those dirty smiles or oh you're hot smiles etc.

To answer your initial question of whether girls only smile at a guy she likes - no, not necessarily. A smile can be considered a friendly gesture - a type of a silent "hello" I guess you can say. From what you've experienced with this girl however, she was definitely trying to grab your attention. If a smile is held for more than 5 seconds and is followed by constant eye contact, then chances are the girl is into you.

no not all girls smile at the guy they like.

but by what you're saying, it does sound like she's interested in you.

smile at her back before she stops showing signs. since she's shy, she might easily be discouraged.

i know that if I smiled at the guy I liked and he didn't smile back, I'd think he wasn't interested and I'd stop showing signs.
