He told me it was nice to hear my voice?

i have a friend who is overseas in the army and there is a long and involved story behind me and him but currently he has a girlfriend and I have a boyfriend but before we got with the people we are with now we liked each other and were talking too...

but yesterday he was trying to text me from this phone he uses over there or from his phone and nothing was working so he called me and it lasted less than two minutes because of how expensive it is to call overseas (he also said he hadn't called or tried texting anyone else back here in the states but me and his girlfriend) but after we hung up we were chatting on Facebook and he was about to leave to go to sleep and he told me it was nice to hear my voice...i wasn't expecting him to say that whatsoever

when he said that to me it brought back some of my feelings for him but I have a boyfriend and he has a girlfriend..why did he say tell me that?

It's possible it was just platonic. After such a long time he talked to you and remembered how you're a nice person and was glad to talk. Could be something more, but I wouldn't read to much into it
