I sent my friends with benefits a pretty flirty/quasi-sexual text about me being in my Halloween costume and wearing the short shorts he likes so much underneath and how its too bad he is an hour away. He responded by saying "haha yeah I know. writing a paper...:/" (he has a 30 page paper due tomorrow) so I was wondering if that is a bad response/rejection or if that's a good thing. What do you think?

If he was busy and stressed he probably didn't feel like flirting. I mean think about it - are you always feeling flirtatious? Probably not.

Aside from that, the fact that he responded means something at least, compared to just ignoring your message. And "I know" probably implies he'd rather be doing you than a paper.
