Well sweetheart, I know this is for the guys, but I just feel like I have to give you some sisterly advice too. "the way to a man's heart is through his tummy". however, tell him you aren't going to want to do it all the time (and I mean, RIGHT OFF THE BAT!) or he will just assume that you'll always cook! I made this mistake of not saying it right off the bat and I was always presumed to be nothing but a maid. he's got two hands! if his penis and ego are too big to cook YOU a meal, then maybe that's not a good situation to be in. and don't ever fall for the "but I don't know how to cook!" scheme. it's bullsh*t. he's gonna have to cook if you die first, or he'll starve to death! and god knows a man can't live without food. throw a cookbook at him and say, "now you don't have any excuses, gets to cookin'!" can't stand mothers who don't teach their boys to cook! maybe in 1950 women had the TIME to cook all the everyday, but in this day in age, there simply is no time. And to answer your question,...it depends on the situation. Cooking dinner out of romance is done by choice, it's only motherly if you let the man think you're going to mother him. My advice - don't fall for it. I'm sorry, but women and men should take turns doing everything in and around the house. Even more so if there are kids involved. I just told my fiancee about a month ago that he's helping with the cooking, much to my suprise, he was completely cool with it and that's the way it should be. So go on girl, speak up!

They love it! As do their mothers haha! Its about nourishment, physically and emotionally. I'm big into cooking for anyone friends included. I love the shopping for ingredients, planning and putting together something that my partner and I can sit down and enjoy together. 2 minute noodles however, do not count! Seriously, find me a man who wouldn't like it, and even better if you burn it but they still eat it because they know you made the effort ;-)

It is true that men are probably less likely to take good care of themselves,

so if he needs a good meal, it is just nice of you to cook.

There are things men are better at,

and other things women are better at.

Do you find it fatherly or romantic if I fix your microwave?

Probably not.

I do recall a girlfriend once saying to me that

she likes to see me do manly things.

Fix the car, get dirty. Swing an axe.

But it will not improve the relationship.

The quality of the relationship lies in your conversations.

I think you should not worry about being the right -type- of person.

If you feel like cooking, cook. If not, don't.

You can contribute to the man's life,

and that is a nice thing to do.

But worry not. Your emotional availability is what really counts.

I'm a fairly good cook myself, so I don't technically need my mother or a special girl to cook for me. Nonetheless, any girl that takes the time and effort to make a great meal will get points in my book. Why not? It is thoughtful and we all need to eat! Sure it is romantic!

That's because modern feminism has often precious little to do with equality and flirts dangerously close to misandry. Have you read Dworkin and other 3rd wave feminists? There are several themes in common, namely they are disproportionately lesbians, many had abusive fathers (no excusing the dads!) and generally speaking never had any luck dating or marrying. If a girl has "motherly" qualities a guy can picture her as potentially being the mother of his children some day. That's not a bad thing. Motherly in a bad way is insisting we clean up the house when the Superbowl is on. Bad timing!
