Why do some girls ignore me when I say "hi"?

Sometimes cute ones will ignore me when we're passing by and I say "hi" or "good morning". I'm not bad looking, and have gotten a lot prettier than the ones who have ignored me, so I don't take it personally. Is it usually a sign of being full of herself, or shyness and being uncomfortable talking to strangers? I hear pretty ones complain about how they hardly get approached, so why ignore someone who's being friendly?

The thing that brought on the question...I was hiking and at the end of the hike I saw a cute girl, when I walked past her I said "hi", and she ignored me. But she was lurking and she kept staring after that. My friend who was there saw her looking at me. Maybe she was just shy. Maybe she thought I was cute, but I'm home, and I don't have her number.

Uncomfortable about talking to strangers mostly. I am very happy to be polite and talk to a guy if he says hi to me...in many situations. But I will not even look at a guy who talks to me if I'm walking through a city, it's dark out, or I'm by myself in a somewhat isolated location.

I used to not acknowledge guys at all - even in starbucks and places like that, because I was shy. I didn't mean to look like I was ignoring them, but just tried to act like I hadn't heard them and hope they took it that way.

Even now, if a guy is with some friends or is overly loud/confident about saying hi to me, I will often not realize he's talking to me (or if I do, I think he's trying to tease me in front of his friends), so I won't respond.

As long as you say hi nicely, subtlety in a safe environment, many girls will at least make eye contact and smile at you.

Maybe they're shy. Maybe they're confused. Maybe you caught them off guard. Maybe they didn't notice you. Maybe they didn't hear you. Maybe they thought you were talking to someone else. Maybe they just didn't feel like responding. Maybe it was too late for them to respond when they actually noticed what you had said. And yes, maybe they are full of themselves. But does it matter, really?

well what are you supposed to do? it's kind of awkward,i never know whether that's just a ''hi,just passing through'' or ''hi,wanna talk?''. even if it was the latter,what do you do? stand in the middle of the path to talk? talk to every stranger that decides to say hi? it's confusing.

If I'm walking past a girl and say "good morning", I'm kind of expecting her to say "good morning" back...crazy me. *facepalms*

how is it confusing? Just say "hi" in return... if he wants to talk, he'll talk. If he doesn't, he wont. And there's nothing wrong with standing in a path to talk. Happens all the time.

but sometimes you're just genuinely confused,how often do you have strangers just coming up to you saying hi? what if every guy starts doing that and they take your response as flirting? standing in the path is rude.

she wasn't stuck up,some people just aren't used to that,or she didn't hear you.or it was weird that you said hi and just walked away. all of those have happened to me.

It's both shyness, and being full of themselves. It varies person to person. Some girls are stuck up. Some are just REALLY shy. Sometimes maybe they didn't hear you, or were lost in thought and didn't react soon enough. I've don't that plenty of times.

But no matter what, there's no reason to take it personally.
