Do you eat pomegranate with a sewing needle?

As a young child my mother would often give me a pomegranate and a sewing needle to pick out the juicy seeds one by one. Now yes I know now there's better ways of getting the seeds out but as a child I sat quietly surgically removing them one by one. Chats with friends points to this being fairly common and obviously a way of keeping kids quiet more than teaching them pomegranate dining etiquette.

Never new that was an option. Granted, I ate my first pomegranate when I was 13 or so, so never having seen one before in my life, I googled how to eat it, and what is edible from it (because it was annoying to spit every seed after I ate the red stuff) so I always ate a pomegranate by cutting it in half and hitting it with a wooden spoon until all seeds pop into a bowl. Are there any other ways to eat one?

No wonder you grew into such a responsible young lady. My step dad was in a military family stationed in Philippines and they have a similar practice of eating oily rice with chopsticks one grain at a time. Apparently he got very good with chopsticks and ended up becoming a mechanic later with those dexterity skills.

What's the worst thing that could happen? TBH im not sure id let my kids do this. Her mom is very brave. There is a meme here: Parents are jumping their dirt bikes over a mountain creek, NP but their kids are eating popcorn that all the kernels didn't pop, OMG! You'll break a tooth! That's how ill be about my kids, am I crazy?

I use a knitting needle, like god intended for us to do.
