What's the deal with Olives? Love/hate relationship?

What's up with olives? I think they taste horrible. But I keep eating them and want more. You guys got that thing? It's like I eat one and am like, "Eww..." [5 mins later] "I want another one! Eww..." I'm stuck in an addictive loop of "Ewws"!

What's that about? Is it just me? I need more olives! But I hate them!

I don't think I've ever had such a turbulent relationship with a food item before where I seem to dislike it so much but -- at the same time -- can't get enough of it.

I have gone through this same thing with certain foods/drinks.

We don't like the taste, yet we still go have it again, what I came to believe is that, I am craving it, as in " my body is "needing this".

So, if that is true, your mind is playing some kind of trickon you to eat that certain food, because you "need it" for your body, so you are able to eat it at that time, then after, ewww

Do you have that reaction with all olives? I get that with the green ones. I love to eat the garlic stuffed olives. The green olive makes me go eew and the garlic makes me go back for more. I love black olives and Greek olives.

I think I might even like the taste of green ones ever-so-slightly better than black but I always have this strange reaction with both like, "Eww. Don't like this taste." Then 5 mins later, "I want another one!" :-D My wife brought home a salad with both black and green ones when I wrote that Q where I was initially wanting to pick out the olives and set them on the side of the salad. Then I started eating them and ran out and was craving olives for the rest of the night.

You ever had those extra dirty olive martinis? They put pickled olive juice in those. I went to some highfalutin business party (suits and tuxes and fancy dresses) soon after I graduated and there were servers constantly refilling our extra dirty olive martinis. And I thought it was the most disgusting thing I ever drank. But I couldn't get enough of it, "More! More! More" But I thought it was just alcohol doing that. Nowadays it's like as much as I squirm thinking of it, I kinda want to drink pickled olive juice.

One thing I wonder is if I'm missing some sort of micronutrient that they have. When I was your age, I just hated the taste and like, "Yucky!" And I pick out all the olives on like a pizza or Greek salad and don't want to eat anymore. And I am still the same with tastes like, "Yucky!" except now I keep wanting to eat them.

That's a possibility but I'm not sure bc I'm not a doctor. You should talk to your doctor about that

Not really the actual doctors (I think they're great people) but more the whole drive there and fill out forms and the waiting thing. Plus I think at least some of us guys are reluctant to seek support and help for things that are wrong with us.

I got a sort of olive addiction which is so weird because I think I hate olives. But I want to eat more olives even though I hate the taste. It's so confusing.

I think I could go through a whole jar of pickled olives now. Not like gobble-gobble but like eat one and be like, "Eww! That tastes horrible..." [5 mins later] "I guess I'll try another one! Eww! That tastes horrible!" repeat.

Apparently you don't hate them as much as you imagine. I like Kalamata olives quite a lot.

I like olives a lot. Especially when they are stuffed with garlic.
It's like any other food. It's a personal taste.
