What's the best part of a pie: The crust or the filling?

For me it’s like this.

the smell, the aroma of the pie hits you, you can almost taste it, you salivate as the aroma hits you.

your fingers rub together, your tongue wets your lips.

you take the knife and gently, reverently cut a slice, watching the knife glide through, releasing more aroma, but now coupled with the pies contents and pastry.

you gently lift in on to a plate, and prepare it with that little bit of extra, it could be a drop of mustard, or some apple sauce, or whipped cream or ice cream, or nothing,

taking your spoon or fork, you gently sink it in to the pie, taking a bite, oh wow, oh
Fraptious day.

then you try just the filling, then the crust, then just the pastry.

hmmm, you try them all together…. Yes it’s a double act.

You need that supporting genius that is the pastry to give that filling a lift.

Even a flan needs that pastry to keep the contents in place.

I only like flavored pie crusts. Like a cinnamon crumble, oreo or graham cracker crust.

The plain bland pastry crust doesn't do much for me.

In either instance. The filling is what I care most about. I just don't want a crust which detracts from the filling.

My favorite pie is pecan pie 🥧. I only eat the filling with a big spoon. I throw the crust out! It is so delicious that way. Yummy in my tummy! 🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧

All other types of pies that are usually fruit pies with the outer crust on top and bottom, the crust matters more.

But I voted for the crust. But it's actually kind of a combination of the filling and the crust. Although I've been known to really like eating just the crust left behind in a pie pan. I also like pizza crust, the heels of bread loaves, and the sort of crusty edges of casseroles.

Pie crust has no taste or texture - it's basic function is to hold the filling and make it easier to serve and eat.
