Do you cough around hot peppers?

Question

My mom cooks with hot peppers all the time and I usually cough. I sneeze too...

You could have a mild allergy to hot peppers, my eyes use to water around onions but no more I never was around anyone cooking with hot peppers and I've even cooked hot sausage and never had any problem but some hot things I attempt to eat make my mouth really hot so sometimes I avoid that stuff.

It's a normal reaction due to the capsaicin molecules that get released into the air from cooking or chopping the peppers. Happens to me when cooking really hot peppers like Habanero, Scorpion, Ghost Peppers and so on.

I just put enough stupidly hot hot sauce on what I'm eating and enjoy the ride. Though if you are roasting a lot of stupidly hot peppers that can suck. The capsaicin can get in the air and breathing to much of that in can make you hate life. I learned that the hard way.

When I make bacon wrapped jalapeños those jokers get me every time & thanks to covid I smartened up a little & now when I prepare jalapeños I throw on a mask.

Not that I know of. My brother used to eat them a lot and my ex-fiance used to eat chili peppers like candy! It's when she cooked ginger that I couldn't breathe!

Yes I do. My spice tolerance is not very high. I don't like eating anything with peppers for breakfast.
