How often does food remind you of someone else?

Sometimes. Certain dishes that I make remind me of family. Occasionally, when I make a list of dinners for the week, I will put something on it that my grandmother made and past down. It doesn't always trigger my memory of her but it might from time to time.

The actual cooking definitely makes me think of my mom, even though she is not there with me. When I cook a certain family recipe with my husband, memories of making it with my mom when younger always come up.

So does just the taste and smell of what I am making. It reminds me of my parent's house and the smell of the kitchen when she was making dinner. Reminds me of eating as a family.

Sometimes, it even reminds me of big family gatherings. So, certain things do trigger memories about people in my life but for me, it is often the act of cooking and the smell of the food I am making than just what it looks like.

Food generally does not remind me of people but of situations and events I experienced in time.

I think what triggers the memories are the odors tastes and not so much the look of food itself.

I can relate to my youth with a number of foods that I haven't consumed in a while. The same applies to odors when, for example, I walk down a street or ride my bike in nature. The sudden smell of something will bring back a number of (mostly) good memories.

I cannot really relate that a specific kind of food would remind me of a human being.

Wow that was very nice. Unexpectedly poetic in a way. And true, most of the time it's when I eat those smiley face chicken nuggets I used to eat as a kid or something. But occasionally it's visually reminiscent somehow

Honestly food only reminds me of people when it is something that I enjoyed with someone. So like peanut butter pie always reminds me of my ex and ice cream cake always reminds me of my mom and grate aunt because that was both her and my favorite deserts for our birthday and my mom always made it best! But something like the picture would only remind me of my ex because she had huge awesome boobs but dont think that cake would unless I saw it in a pic like that and specifically focusing on that image…

Yeah tbh thats where my mind was when I saw the cake haha! But yeah usually it's more based on a memory not the shape. It's interesting though
