What do you know about wine?

I know that I drank some with lunch a few hours ago (I had pasta) that was leftover from last night's dinner. It was a nice Dolcetto.
Admittedly though, I have drank wine for years, but I'm not terribly knowledgeable on the subject of wine and wine making. I know enough, and I generally know what I like, but I'm certainly not a connoisseur by any means. For me, there's so much to it it's kind of dizzying. I am into trying new things and learning along the way, but it's not a huge interest of mine. I do enjoy a good glass now and then though.
With that said, I have developed a bit of curiosity for a grape variety called Zilga. I have yet to have a wine made with it, but I am interested to try it. I became interested in it, mostly because it is a very cold-tolerant grape variety that can be grown in cold climates. I have plans to do homesteading and I may eventually move to an area that has very cold winters, and the thought of growing my own grapes for winemaking is plausible.
Zilga is said to be somewhat sweet, fruity and astringent with notes of coffee and smoke, which is a bit outside of my normal wine palate, but it does sound intriguing. At least in the context of being able to grow and make my own wine. I'd like to try a bottle first, of course, but it seems to be fairly hard to find here in North America. Zilga tends to be more common and available in central and eastern European countries.
There are numerous types of wines.. basically there are 5
Red wine, White wine, Rosé wine, Dessert wine and Sparkling wine.. red being the most famous one
Not sure how they are made, personally not a fan since it's too often sweet
It tastes sweet, has alcohol in it, and I can't really handle it very well.
Not all wine are sweet
I know the basics but I couldn't taste one and name the year.

I know I'll drink it on occasion and that personally red is better than white unless it's champagne or dessert wine
I know it's from fermented grapes and it's good for you.
I know I hate it.
Pretty much nothing
