Do you like Eggnog?

I've never tried Eggnog and probably will never try Eggnog simply because I hate milk. I know milk isn't the only ingredient in this drink, but it still resembles milk a little too closely for me to be enticed by it. 😂

I love eggnog. A few days ago I made it from scratch for the first time. I thought it wouldn't turn out right, but it was great. It's not that hard to make.

I put rum in the eggnog I made, but not much. I think it adds to the flavor, but eggnog is so rich you can't drink enough to feel the alcohol.

6 egg yolks + 1/2 cup of sugar.
Whisk together in a bowl until creamy
This will thicken while doing the rest. That's OK.

Whisk into a saucepan on med-high heat, stir often
Bring to barely a simmer
2 cups of milk ( preferably whole milk)
1 cup of heavy whipping cream
1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
(optional) 1/8 teaspoon of ground cloves
Pinch of salt

When the milk mix is heated to almost a simmer, remove from heat and add SMALL amounts to the egg mix, whisking vigorously and constantly. Small amount means a large spoon full at a time. Increase to about 1/8 cup at a time until most of the milk is added to the egg mix. Then pour the egg mix back into the saucepan with the remaining milk.

Bring barely to a simmer, whisking constantly. About 160-165 degrees.
Remove from heat.

Whisk in
1/4 -1/2 teaspoon vanilla
(Optional) Add 1/4 - 1/2 cup of rum, brandy or bourbon

Pour through fine mesh strainer into pitcher or large bowl. The strainer will remove any curdled milk and egg shells. Cover and put straight into refrigerator. Let cool for at least a few hours.

Bella I can't say I really like it. I've tried it before but never finished the cup. It has an interesting taste for a sip or two but not enough for me to really like it.

It's okay. I usually buy the almond milk version of eggnog and that is slightly better than original eggnog

I love egg nog. I’ve actually never even mixed booze with it, I just take it straight to the neck, lmao. Lot of sugar in it though, so I keep the consumption moderate.
