Have you eaten a rissole?

Not the poncy French pastry type, a proper British rissole that you get from the chippy when you haven't got enough cash to buy a fish. Rissoles, (from the Latin russeolus) are a mix of corned beef and potato rolled into a ball or pattie and coated in breadcrumbs before being fried in oil. They can also be made using cheese in place of meat.

They are most popular in North East England and South Wales and are thought to arrived with Italian migrants. As well as the chippy you can buy them at markets or prepacked to cook at home if you're too dumb to roll mash into a ball.

I have never heard of them. They seem to be like a round Croquette that you would get in France or Belgium. I am sure that statement would offend the French. An American would think they are a Hush Puppy just by the looks of them. Croquettes themselves are not very popular or common in the US although my wife loves them.

I have not yet. I've seen them but figured we had enough grease in the bag already. One of the youtube channels riders I follow makes a habit of getting one every time she goes to Germany for Christmas so they must be popular there too?

I had a rice ball with some vegies mixed in that was fried. They were self made though. I made them when I was working in a kitchen for a short while. But I've never had a rissole. I had fish and chips though when I was in the uk.

Many years ago. Scotgate chippy in Stamford where I grew up had them sometimes. Not as good as faggots in gravy, but tasty nevertheless.
