Would other fruits be more popular if they were banana shaped?

The popularity of the banana is largely down to it's mouth friendly shape. There's no need to cut up and it won't dribble down your chin like say a peach. The skin pulls down easily, tug the top, one skin, two skin, three skin, four skin, and it's good to go. No messing around picking little bits of skin off like with an awkward orange. Pineapples are nice but they're a faff and there's more waste than fruit.

So would you buy more fruit if it was banana shaped?

I don't think that other fruit would be more popular because of that odd shape. Other fruit are actually more popular than bananas and they are shaped in such a way that they fit easier in the mouth than a banana. Take a strawberry, a raspberry or blueberry and you will fit it much easier in your mouth. Also, those fruit don't need to be peeled and therefore much easier and convenient to eat.

Hmmm... It IS a very convenient fruit but so is an apple, peaches or pears. Convenient veggies are celery and carrots. But you're totally right, bananas are the perfect portable fruit.
