Which Halloween mash looks better?

The Irish celebrate the Samhian while we Welshies prefer Noson galan gaeaf. They're different but for simplicity lets put them under the Halloween umbrella.

One thing both types of Halloween have in common are mashed potato recipes.

WELSH stwmp naw rhyw (mash of nine things, or stump of nine genders if you use Google translate)
Potatoes, carrots, turnips, peas, parsnips, leeks, pepper, salt and milk.

IRISH Colcannon.
Potatoes, kale or cabbage, cream, butter

But which mash (or hash) dish looks better.

Do you have a recipe for either or both of these mashes? I would love to try them. I have Irish ancestry but the Welsh one sounds really good.

There's dozens of colcannon recipes online. Basically it's just creamy mashed potato with cabbage or kale and onions mixed in. Not many written recipes for stwmp, Basically it's mostly mash potato with the listed other ingredients listed added as much or as little as you fancy. The main thing is it has to be 9 ingredients so you can substitute if you want

Nine ingredients is simply because 3 was considered a sacred number and 3×3=9. Cheese is a popular substitute for any of the additional ingredients.

My grandma was from Belfast and used to make mashed potatoes like the colcannon, but she used green onions instead of cabbage and called it "champ"
