I like stouts, including the milk stouts so I'd happily give it ago

No. The whole bourbon-barrel-aged beer thing is stupid; I had some and almost puked. If I want bourbon flavor I'll drink bourbon.

I quit drinking the hard stuff a while back as I have gut problems and I always liked it straight or with very simple combos. I don't drink much now but stick to good beer when I do.

The good thing about stouts for me is the heavy body keeps me from drinking too much. One of the best beers I ever had was Stone Smoked Porter, which unfortunately they quit making years ago. Probably because it was hard to have more than one as it was very filling. Every other smoked porter I've tried since is awful. Mostly an IPA guy.

You like strong stouts get Old Rasputin. It's 9% and tastes like Guinness on steroids. It's a little more drinkable
