You REALLY asked this on a Friday? And during Lent? I thought you and I were cool with each other!
Grrr. Well, if I must, I must. Steak is amazing and I can't wait to have one on Friday during the Octave of Easter.
I can only answer by saying it depends on the quality of the meat. You can take a cheaper cut of meat and make it into a decent dish by roasting or braising it. However, a cheap cut of steak is useless, in my opinion, if you just grill it.
I stopped buying steak from supermarkets in the USA years ago. The quality was trash for what I was paying. Since then, I'd only bought meat from local farmers who could attest to the animals diet and non GMO conditions. There are fewer of them now than ever, thanks to what's going on in the USA. Beef prices are crazy for quality stuff now, so I've stopped eating steak altogether.
I refuse to decide on one or the other… both taste amazing… but slow cooked, fall of the bone tender braised short rib.. well you can toss that in a pasta with marinara, bearnaise…
then there’s the classic steak and potatoes.. cat go wrong with either or
It's pretty close, I do love both. I would have to say that steak tastes slightly better. But pot roast is much more handy and nearly just as good, plus you can eat on it for 2 or 3 days.

Steak is a one time meal but, a pot roast is a multi meal option. Warm up the Gravel with a little of the roast sliced up. All over Crunchy Toast. Great for cold weather.

When one has a good cut of beef, roast or steak, either one could manage to topple a lesser example of quality in the other opposing family of cuts.
Sometimes it's steak, sometimes it's roast.

A flame seared steak by far. A pot roast is something I tolerate. A good steak is something I drool over.
I love boyh when they are seasoned and cooked right. It's hard to choose.
