Are you a more of a Soy sauce or Fish sauce person?

Both are good staples but I'm starting to lean closer to fish sauce specially for dipping sauce with vinegar. They work better with aromatics! And also, I don't mind it's smell. I grew up eating dried fish so it doesn't bother it. It's what made me like it better.

Fish sauce. Or shrimp paste. Or miso. The flavours are incredibly rich.

Soy is just salt and umami. I don't need the salt. Nutritional yeast is a better option in many situations if all you want is umami.

I like both but it depends what I'm eating. I eat a lot of sushi and I always use soy sauce for that. If I'm making a dipping sauce or a marinade, I tend to use fish sauce a little more.

Are you in Taiwan? I was lucky to visit there a while ago and loved it, including the food. The street markets were awesome and I even ate stinky tofu, which I actually enjoyed. Mango bing might have been my favorite.

No but I'm in the Philippines which use soy sauce more often. Vietnamese cuisine inspired me to use fish sauce more. Also, it's healthier.

Considering I'm a vegetarian, I'm definitely a Soy sauce person.
