The most popular beer by sales here is Peroni while in the USA it's Bud light. Personally I'm only an occasional beer drinker and tend to stick to smaller breweries and try something different every time.

Do you prefer hoppy or malty beers?

Beer is made from a mix of hops and malts. Different styles emphasise each to varying degrees. I like IPAs which tend to be heavy on the hoppy side but I like malty beers like stout and porter a little better.
