I was surprised to learn that Americans don't drink squash, and it's mostly a British thing. So that got me wondering what other British food isn't widely available over the pond.
Now, one of the most popular foods I can think of over here that might or not be available in the USA is Laverbread, a store cupboard staple in every British home.
It looks like a cup of someone’s chewing tobacco spit. See we’re so refined her in the states that boys can’t just spit their tobaccy slobber anywhere they please. So some carry around disposable cups with a wadded up napkin or paper towel in the bottom and they spit into that until it’s too full or they leave the no-spitting zone. The first pic didn’t come through for me, but the second and third look just like cups o’ tobaccy spit. So i probably wouldn’t try it even if i had come across it. 🤢🤮
Looks like some sort of congealed seaweed... I would be tempted to compare it to one of several diffrent types of greens that get stewed down such as mustard, turnip, collard greens... but it's not that. Don't know that there will be an equivalent here. Is it eaten in this gelatinous state?
The closest we would have to British Squash drink is a highly concentrated frozen fruit juice syrup meant to be diluted with water. We don't have Welsh laverbread the closest thing would be nori seaweed sheets used mostly with sushi but never boiled into a paste like laverbread.
I don’t know anything about that. It looks like green seaweed out of a canal in Florida. I’m not touching that with a 10 foot pool if you want to eat it be my guess but I’m not gonna do it girl. Lol There’s plenty of recipes we can come up with. 👍

I've never heard of laverbread.
I looked it up and AI tells me it can be bought online or from specialty dealers in the US, imported from the UK.
It's a seaweed bread, I heard about it, but I've never tried it. I'm not from the USA, so I don't know.
I do not know what it is but I have stepped in it a couple of times.
I have never heard of it or seen it in the US.
what does that thing taste like?
I've never seen it
now I can't unsee it...
As an American I have never heard of it.
