Why do girls look down when I pass by?

Why do girls look down when I pass by? Like 9 out of 10 girls I pass by while walking down the street, tend to look down. I don't know why this happens, can it be that I'm intimidating?
It's kind of annoying because sometimes I see a beautiful girl I wanna talk to but she then looks down right when I pass next to her.
There's rarely a girl that keeps looking forward or looks into my eyes.
It's not like they're always looking down, because I see them coming with their heads up, but then they look to the floor.

Why is this happening, does anyone know a possible explanation for this?

Maybe you are attractive. But for me I don't tend to be comfortable just STARING back at a guy or a girl who is walking by me and staring. Literally WTF is what I would be thinking. Have the decency to not stare back at me! It's annoying.

But by reading other comments is sounds as though you are fishing for compliments so it must be because you are simply to dazzling and sexy to keep staring at. Ha. I tend to stare back at good looking guys so that perhaps they will approach me ;)

I look down a lot when guys pass me, mostly because it is kinda weird to me when I stare directly at a guy who is walking towards me. Plus I do that when a cute guy walks past me because I don't want to be caught staring at him.

Most women today don't make eye contact due to a history of society telling them they're inferior. Women also don't make eye contact with men in fear of assault.

I'm not saying that they have to make eye contact, they can keep looking straight forward. Plus, if I'm in a busy street, how are they gonna be afraid of getting assaulted.
I see them looking straight until they pass by me. They look straight when they pass by most of the other men, but when they pass by me they look down.

I have no idea what you look like, so it's hard to tell. Are you pretty muscular? Do you have a neutral facial expression that looks angry or scary?

I'm not muscular, I'm skinny, but I've been told many times that I'm cute, so I don't have an angry or scary look in my face.

the fear of assault thing is very real I was attacked at 15 and even though I fought my way out of the situation I constantly wonder when I am alone in public if every man I see s going to attack me. I know not every man would obviously but any mad could be a predator you don't know! there is always that voice in the back of my head like "pay attention to him don't let him get too close, don't look him in the eye you do NOT want to have to fight for your life again." we live in a rape culture I'm constantly in survival mode when I'm alone I even catch myself sizing up men to see what the best defense moves would be based n their size. I even think these things when my boyfriend is with me sometimes I never feel safe when I'm out in public.

There can be two reasons for this:-

You're either too unattractive that they can't bear to look at your face (which is unlikely) or you have a perfectly attractive face so they're intimidated to look straight at your face.

I don't wanna brag, but I'm not unattractive, at all, but I'm also not a super model. I say I'm an 8 overall, but still, if you see a handsome man, shouldn't you look at him instead of looking to the floor? There's been women that lock eyes on me for about 3 seconds when we walk by each other, and it's great, but when they look down I feel like they're rejecting me in some way.

In that case, it obviously means that they feel you're 'above' their league so they just can't make eye contact for more than a few seconds. Or maybe you come off as a bit uptihjt and unapproachable.

Next time this happens, just go ahead and talk to her, whether she looks down or not.

What I think is that I look unapproachable, which sucks, but I don't know how to look more approachable.

There is one foolproof way to look approachable - smile! You don't have to be laughing like a lunatic, but even a subtle, flirty smile can make ANYONE approachable, irrespective of how they look.

When she looks at me I smile, but when I'm just walking I don't smile, I'm normal. But as I said, every time we make eye contact I smile.
Maybe it's just my normal facial expression that seems unapproachable.

I don't think so. If you have even an average face which isn't repulsive, then 'facial expression' is not really an issue. And you say you're an 8, so that shouldn't be a problem.

Maybe the girls you came across were themselves too shy, or had boyfriends or maybe some other reason. But nothing is wrong from your end, most probably.

You're most welcome! Girls can be too hard to read, because their behavior is usually ambiguous. A girl who's all chatty and flirty with you may not be interested romantically, whereas a girl who hardly talks to you and often looks down (like those who mentioned) may actually be interested.

Its all a gamble, really.

Well I have anxiety so I look down when I walk past anyone. Some of those girls might have anxiety too. It's likely nothing personal. They probably just don't feel comfortable making eye contact with people they don't know.

I understand, but almost all of them have anxiety? That's what bums me out, because I'm single and want to find a girlfriend, but it's not easy when they all don't look at your eyes. I feel like they're rejecting me.

I can't tell you about all girls, but personally speaking I try not to stare anyone when I am walking down the street. I am kind of shy so I avoid eye-contact with people.

But I don't stare. What I do is look at the people when they are a further away from me, and if I see they look at me when they're closer, then I look them in the eyes (I do this with everyone, not just women, but men don't have a problem on looking back). I try not to intimidate by staring too much.
