I was just sitting at school doing my work when a girl my age I don't know walked up to me and told me I'm really pretty. After I said thank you she smiled and left to wherever she was heading in the first place with her friend.

Would a completely stranger tell another girl she's pretty for no reason?

Compliments from strangers in day to day life are probably the most genuine ones, (especially if it's from straight girl or a gay guy) because they don't really have much to gain from complimenting you. They'll be honest because what reason would they have to lie about it?
