Can I get birth control without an exam?

I'm 27 and have never been to a gynecologist, I have a lot of anxiety and going to the drs is not an easy thing for me. They give me Valium to come to the appointments and i still can't hardly handle having to go. I want to get on birth control as I know I can't handle a kid right now but I'm afraid they won't give it to me without an exam and I can't just do that. Yes I realize I have sex with my boyfriend and he sees me but that's different than being in a well lit room and having someone down there with lights and touching and looking at everything. I also do like the idea of them being inside of my body, if I get pregnant I understand I have to go but I have no issues with that area and if I'm gonna get cancer it's gonna happen if I get an exam or not. I just need some birth control, I don't need an exam or someone digging around inside my body and looking at my privates.

Some places like planned parenthood may give it to you without one, but they really shouldn't, and most places I know will not. I know it makes you uncomfortable, but a physician needs to know you as a patient before prescribing a drug you put inside your body once a day. It's how they decide what type and brand of birth control is right for you. It's how they know you are healthy for one, and it's how they know you're not suffering from rare side effects of taking them.

If this is something you simply cannot do, then perhaps condoms are your birth control method of choice.

I go to a regular GYN nurse practitioner and she's been giving it to me since I was 16 with no exam. But she always asks me every time if I've started to have sex yet.

@CheerGirl38139 well that is the biggest difference between your situation and the OP's. Once you start having sex, it introduces you to a new set of issues she will want to be examining. Also, I was interpreting her question as saying she can't even go to the doctor without having panic attacks. She will at least have to meet with her physician to go over her history.

It would be very difficult because even now just talkin on here I'm shaking and having a panic attack but if they'd give me the birth control I'd go talk with them I just know the exam is too much for me to handle. Condoms are a difficult thing for boyfriend and I, I'm allergic to the latex and every time we've used a non latex one it broke and was very small and tight on him. He never said anything but it looked like his dick was gonna just pop off where it was squeezing him so hard so we just go without. If I can't handle the exam it seems they'd be willing to give it to me especially with my anxiety so I don't get pregnant and have to deal with everything that comes along with being pregnant.

Well like I said, some places will, but most will not. It's not about them feeling sorry for you and your anxiety, it's a liability issues. They're giving you a drug under their name. They have to make sure you're safe. If you get pregnant that's of your own accord, but if they give you a drug without properly examining you and something happens because of that, that's on them.

my doctor told me that until I spread 'em she doesn't have to Ha!. But after I start having sex you have to once a year. I think.

I can't do it tough. I've cancelled my appointment for a physical with my family doctor because I'm having such bad anxiety about it and it wasn't even until August.

girl I know how you feel. I HATE going to any doctor. Especially if there's a needle involved. You might be able to get the pill from like a planned parenthood clinic without a pelvic exam. Im not sure.

I have nexplanon from them now because I knew they'd give it to me without an exam but they are so sketchy there and I don't like that. It broke and they told me it was impossible and it took me calling 4-5 times complaining that it was broke and pinching me and she finally said if it would make me feel better I can come get it checked. As soon as she touched it she said yep it's broke.

They have to give you an exam to check for things that might get worse from the hormones in the pill...

Unless you still have your V-Card. I've been on the pill since 11th grade and haven't had an exam yet. But she says when I start having sex I will have to. :(

I can go and talk to them and they can listen to me breathe and stuff just them being down there I can't handle. I will tell them anything they wanna know I just can't do the exam

It's a big deal for me, just thinking of having to go there I get super shakey and nervous feeling. I know people say it's not an issue but I just can not stand the idea of everything that goes on. I don't go to the dr unless I absolutly have to, I waited a week having an allergic reaction with a rash over my entire body before I finally went to the dr.

Well, you will have to get over this at some point. You need to have these exams to remain healthy. Just look at it like going to the dentist. It stinks but it is over in a short time.

I just can't do it, I don't feel it's any of their business to be down there if I'm not having issues. I only go to a dentist or dr if I'm having problems which is rare, it's to much to handle going and havin to take the medication just to go it's too much. I just need the birth control so I don't get pregnant.

You go to them before issues arise. well.. it is your body. It isn't bad. He is a professional. (There are woman Gyn's as well, you know...)

I don't think man or woman would matter. Just talking about it on here I'm about to have a panic attack, I'd think for someone like me they'd just give me the birth control to prevent me from getting pregnant so I don't have to deal with all the anxiety. Doctors around here aren't very trustworthy anyhow as multiple have been talked to about assisting in suicide or pushing pills on people. One doctor now is in jail and so far being charged with murder of 3 people but more are coming forward against him. I'd just go to one of them but they are just general family doctors prescribing diet and pain pills.

Probably an online Canadian pharmacy but you know the type or dosage if never had them before, so maybe try and get a female gynecologist

It doesn't matter if it's male or female I still can't do it. I've ordered off line before and it came from Egypt so that's a little weird.

Oh that far? I hope it was ok from there but yeah I could understand the anxiety, I hate going for a physical but you just have to push yourself but once you've experienced it , it gets easier, maybe you could take friend with you or if your boyfriend to keep you at ease maybe

I never took those lol, seemed too sketchy. I can't even do physicals, I cancelled my one for August because I've been freaking out about it for months and I can't go. I work at the hospital and I see my dr every day I work but it's just too hard to go for myself. The other day my side was hurting and my mom thought my appendix had burst and I insisted to come home and I took a bath and was fine a few hours later. She wanted me to go to er but I couldn't do it because I knew if I had to have surgery I couldn't

I'm just as bad, lol , it's pretty scary thinking about surgery, that's why I'm careful not to hurt myself like with accidents and live a healthy lifestyle so hopefully I never have to get surgery for anything, but I think maybe you should to some kind professional in the field to maybe ease your anxietys becase we all need check ups at some point
