Girl doesn't smile back?

Today i sat somewhere and a girl came walking past me. From the moment we locked eyes (she didn't see me before) i smiled (a grin) but she didn't smile back, i think she looked down. A few seconds later, she stepped on a tile and it made a loud noise, so i looked at her and she looked behind her at me.

Im a bit offended that she didn't smile back or anything (we didn't say anything), she was a few years older than me (at most 25 yrs). Why didn't she smile back? Maybe my smile wasn't noticable? Or did she think i was attractive?

Maybe because she was having a shit day and didn't feel like smiling? Just because you smile at someone it doesn't mean they're obligated to smile back if they don't want to. Whether she thinks you're attractive or not is impossible to say. We don't know her and her not smiling has likely nothing to do with what she things of your looks.

if u look even younger (like 15)... and she's 25 as u say, then i doubt she'd smile back... not coz she's hatin u... but she might was thinkin "ugh smiln at a 15 yo boy... would make me feel like a creep"

Did you smile? Or was it a 'grin' there's a difference.
If you were grinning at her she probably thought you were being cheeky etc.

I dont really know the difference between a smile and a grin, but my mouth was closed and slightly raised and a slight smile-shape i guess lol

Well that sounds like a smile. a grin is more like what the Cheshire cat does (Alice in Wonderland).
'Cheeky' well I thought if you were actually grinning at her rather than a genuine smile she may have thought that you were making fun of her.

Well i just saw her once lol, and it was one of the rare times i smiled and just wanted to know.

Anyway, i have trouble making eye contact with strangers on the street for example (especially girls). However, when making eye conact with cashiers for example, its way easier, because then you have to look at them. With girls on the street you dont have to look at them. Im just shy and its difficult for me.

What do you think i could do to overcome this fear?

Believe me I know exactly how you feel. I was shy (and still am sometimes) but I just kept trying to smile at people and say 'Hi' etc.
I even made a pact with myself to make at least one person smile everyday... whether that be saying hello, smiling or something else.
Just try every day to smile at someone (a girl)...
I was going for an interview or doing a presentation one day (can't remember exactly) but a friend sent me a good luck card and in it she wrote, "You are a star, LET YOURSELF SHINE" I thought that was such a wonderful expression. Hope this helps

Making pacts seem like a great idea. I can try to look at least 1 person in the eyes when walking past, if that gets easier, i can work up to looking an attractive girl of my age in the eyes then if that gets easy, then im basically set lol. Maybe then i can try to smile, but i dont know whether smiling is necessary for a girl.

Do you mean with "let yourself shine" like: dont be afraid, everyone is good, so just show yourself. ?

You are what you... Be happy with yourself. Yes show yourself, show how nice you are. 'giving' a smile to someone can really make their day.

One reason is as a person she doesn't smile often, she doesn't like to smile and second is you smiled at her so there is every chance she thinks it was weird and is suprised at you smiling at her.

Not everyone will smile back dude. Maybe she was having a shitty day, or maybe your grin creeped her out.
