You could go the emotional route as suggested by previous answers, and tell him that cuddling makes you feel secure in your relationship, as well as relaxed, comfortable and content in general.

When I cuddle, it eases my mind. It's a physical reassurance that the person I'm with likes me enough to want to cuddle with me, which puts a lot of negative feelings I might otherwise have to rest.
