Why do girls paint their nails?

I have seen so many girls do it but i just never understood why

Are you asking why do girls like nail polish? I personally think for every gender there are two beauty standards: the male standard and the girl standard. And part of the female ideal of beauty is fingernail polish.

Lets say your trying to impress a guy, you'd wear something that shows your curves, shows some legs, some heels and look like your wearing "no makeup" and your hair is down or in a ponytail. (this could be right or wrong I don't know its just an example)

So if your trying to outshine another girl or a group of girls, you would wear some intricate nail polish, more dramatic makeup, intricate hair style, some flowy non form-fitting outfit, or androgynous outfit.

A lot of women think if women think they look great to women, guys think they look great too. But both genders do things that aren't per say "a big deal" to the opposite gender.

I'm sure there are things guys do that they like that don't make a girl look twice at them. But he's super cool to his guy friends.

So think about it.

Like which gender would be impressed by a sexy black bikini? And which gender would gender would be impressed by a super colorful retro swimsuit?

Though don't get me wrong there are always exceptions.

I do it very rarely since my job requires me to have clean nails (don't want any chips to land in the food). But when I do, I do it because it's fun and kinda relaxing. It's especially nice to do in the summer and you can pick out some nice pastel colors to paint your nails with :)

We like to feel pretty. It started with only the most affluent like Cleopatra of Egypt from thousands of years ago in an effort to feel more beautiful and that same interest holds true today. But also with modern paints and laquers they help strengthen and protect our nails.

we girls like cute and colorful things. I think by painting our nails they look more feminime and pretty that way :) it's just like you shave your beard a personal choice nothing more

Usually I just have a clear varnish on mine, however for special occasions I will paint them but only in a light pink or red.
Am definitely not into all this nail artwork which seems to be the in thing these days.
