Why do girls online often change their profile picture immediately/soon after they are given a compliment about their looks?

Okay now that that is out of the way, i was wondering why this seems to be a thing with a lot of girls i may interact with when online. Like, i may be in the mood for paying a girl a compliment, and I'll notice that quite often, they'll immediately or quite soon after change their profile picture. I never really understood why some women do this, because when i get complimented on a profile picture, im more encouraged to leave it up, not change it! i've seen it happen so many times now, i feel like its actually a thing that a lot of girls do. So ladies or guys... enlighten me.

P. S. just to be clear on this, the girls usually change it to another picture of themselves, one that is usually similar to the last one in terms of quality and visibility of themselves within the shot

It is about chasing the next best thing. Women are notorious about this with men, and I believe some women get a compliment, and then they want to "up their game" to see if they can one up themselves. Don't understand it, but that is how I see it- I would say that is my bottom line, but I think that has already been taken...

They probably feel empowered to put up a picture they think looks even better than that one. You think it's a similar shot, but she might think her hair looks better or something. I don't think you're creeping them out. In fact, you're probably boosting their egos by paying a compliment.

Im not sure why they'd do that. I don't do that. My profile picture is usually up for a month or two and then I just change it when I've changed my look or I'm bored of it. I'm fine with getting compliments though, if I do.

Likely because they become concerned about harassment. Honestly I get it every day but I just laugh the shit off.

Maybe because females tend to insult each other by complimenting them. So they fear a compliment was actually an insult. Or they dislike the attention.

im not sure about that. If that were the case, they wouldn't switch the picture to another one equally as good, if not better.. which is usually the case i notice. If that were the fear, id expect them to upload something where they are more obscure, or not have a profile picture at all

I'd assume to get even more interaction. Humans actually get a small dopamine rush when someone interacts with our social media posts. Its like... Why eat the fries right after a big burger? More dopamine.
