It depends on how formal the event. If it's a run out to McDonald's then I wouldn't care. If it was a -date- date, like a first or second date then I would be almost insulted if he wore sweatpants - the attention one puts into their physical appearance when going to a presumed 'formal event', to look the best you can gives the impression that you care about who you are with, and where you are going. The opposite is also true, if you appear sloppy or if it is obvious you put very little effort into how you are dressed, it can be insulting.
I think a guy should not wear sweatpants on date at all. If they are having guy's night, then it all okay or when he is all alone, but I wouldn't want him to wear it when he is with me. Put on some jeans, so I can at least know we are on actually date.
I think it depends on the occasion. Most of the time I like how it looks, but it depends. To me it gives off an athletic image, and being an athlete myself I would find that attractive.
I wear whatever I want to wear. If a girl doesn't like it? Who cares.

Completely depends on the occasion. I have no problem with a guy dressing comfortably, and wouldn't mind it at all if we were just running errands. But anything else, at least put on some jeans.
I don't mind one bit! I hardly even notice what kind of pants the guy is wearing, especially since he won't be wearing them for too long anyways :p hahaa
I think sweatpants on guys is gross and I'd never let a guy wear that.
