What does it usually mean when a guy and girl hold eye contact?

I was in the supermarket last week, and I was walking down the aisle towards the checkout where a young girl was serving someone. As I walked down the aisle and looked at her, she looked back and locked eyes with me and we held eye contact for about 4/5 seconds before I went to the self-serve checkout.

Yesterday I was at the self checkout and I noticed she was looking at me, so I looked up at her and we held eye contact for about three seconds, before I turned away to smile and look down and to carry on scanning my items.
