She doesn’t care if I like her or not?

I am very close friends with this girl and I developed feelings for her. I asked her about them and got rejected. However, my feelings for her did not go away.

Recently, I brought this up in our conversation and said that I felt bad for putting her through all this and confessed that I still like her.

She replied: “I don’t care. You can like me if you want or don’t like me at all. That’s up to you.”

We are still very close friends. What does this all mean?

It means that you are responsible for your own feelings and what you choose to do with them. As an adult, you have to learn how to control your emotions and feelings because if not, others may end up hurt in the process. I remember saying something like that years ago, I sadly don't remember what it was and the situation was exactly. But it means just that. At the end of the day, she just wants to be friends, and a dating relationship is not what she is focused on or is interested in. Having feelings doesn't always mean you have to date each other. I believe at this point if you are looking for a serious relationship, it is best to look for somebody else who can reciprocate your feelings and you can still have your friendship.
